How AI helped me stop worrying about my daughter hating her bangs
I used to think I had a decent system for kid haircuts:
Pinterest board, scroll together, pick something, show the stylist.
It worked… until The Bangs.
The Problem
Bangs are fun until they’re not.
Suddenly they’re in your eyes, doing weird things in the morning, and require way more maintenance than anyone signed up for.
So when my 8-year-old said she wanted to “cut them out,” I knew three things:
She had a point
That was absolutely not the solution
Traditional Methods like headbands or barrettes were a non starter.
What do I do?
Where AI Actually Helped
Instead of just pulling more inspiration photos, I uploaded a picture of her and gave context:
she wants to grow out bangs
she doesn’t want anything “girly”
she likes her hair a little wild
but not too wild
That last part turned out to be everything.
Where we started - live action shot from Noa designing her app in Figma at Robohub
The first version AI gave us leaned into a shaggy, layered look. She took one look and said it felt too much like my haircut (normally termed a “wolf cut” but she was… more creative 😄).
ChatGPT suggestions
What she actually wanted was more classic.
We didn’t have that language at first. But through a couple quick iterations, it became clear:
“Classic” = fewer layers, cleaner shape, still long, bangs blended but not dramatic
That’s not something I would’ve gotten from Pinterest.
That’s something we figured out together.
What Changed
AI didn’t just give us ideas.
It made the decision-making process personal.
Instead of:
reacting to random photos
me guessing what she meant
us negotiating in circles
We had:
visuals that looked like her
constraints that actually reflected her preferences
a shared way to refine what she meant
By the end, she wasn’t unsure or defensive. She was clear.
And at the salon, I could just show the stylist exactly what we landed on.
The final product and a happy kid.
The Bigger Thing
This is the unlock I keep coming back to:
AI is most useful when it helps you make decisions that are specific to your life, not generic to everyone else’s.
Not faster Pinterest.
Not more options.
Better alignment.
Because in real life, the hard part isn’t “what are the options?”
It’s “what actually fits this person, in this moment?”
That’s the kind of problem we’re building around at Hold My Juice.
More forts, less logistics… and fewer haircut standoffs.
